Learning to Accept Yourself

On any given day, 45% of women are on a diet, according to the National Eating Disorders Association. On average, we think about our bodies 8 times a day, found one recent survey. About 80% of women are dissatisfied with their appearance, and what’s worse, 40% would trade 3 to 5 years of their lives to achieve weight loss goals.

Self awareness requires self acceptance. As a pregnant woman, I read a lot of pregnant-related literature. One thing I hear time and again is how much respect women have for their bodies once experiencing pregnancy and labour.

I wish we would all respect our bodies, treat them well and love them.

Self acceptance breeds confidence and perpetuates healthy choices. Instead of getting mad at yourself for your lack of fitness progress and eating that last cupcake, self acceptance will encourage you to treat your body well from the beginning.

This blog is about achieving your goals with strategic communications. I believe getting there requires awareness and skill. Awareness must start within but it is an important and necessary step.

Spend some time looking at yourself in the mirror. Your goal is’t to dissect your looks or criticize yourself. In fact, push away any negative feelings and just try and get comfortable looking at yourself. This goes for women and men. You’re beautiful. You just may not have seen it yet.
